Sunday, December 30, 2007 @ 11:33 PM Best New Artiste of the Year 1. Daughtry 2. Mika 3. Gym Class Heroes No real Surprises in this category as Daughtry successfully capture this title, with little competition. Mika comes off second, ending his “happy” year, while Gym Class Heroes completes the top three. Its rather disappointing that Sean Kingston failed to pose any competition to Daughtry as many (at least me) would have thought. Best Male Artiste of the Year 1. Timbaland 2. Justin Timberlake 3. Akon, Kayne West, Sean Kingston This perhaps the most fiercely contested category, with votes spread out all equally between all 5 nominees. But Timbaland just have the X-Factor to edge out the other 4 nominees to win by the smallest of margin. Best Female Artiste of the Year 1. Rihanna 2. Avril Lavigne, Gwen Stefani 3. N/A Another competitive category, but favourite Rihanna did not disappoint, by winning this category. Honours even for Avril Lavigne and Gwen Stefani as both have to settle for second best. Dark Horse Fergie failed to impress, only managing a fourth, while Nelly Furtado completes the list. Band of the Year 1. Maroon 5, My Chemical Romance 2. N/A 3. Daughtry There was nothing much to choose from, except for the top two slots. And again, it had to go down the wire, but still unable to find a winner, so we just have to settle for 2 number ones, with old-favourite Maroon 5 and “don’t-call-me-emo” My Chemical Romance. Dark horse Daughtry had to settle for third best. Former favourites Fall Out Boy just had to blame on their poor live performance as they are fourth. No love for Linkin Park, as their new blend of music failed to impress. R&B/ Hip Hop Artiste of the Year 1. Akon, Timbaland, Kayne West 2. N/A 3. N/A In a one-sided contest, we see three shared number ones, as we are unable to carve out a winner. Giant producer Timbaland had to share honour with fellow Justin Timberlake, while the ego Kayne West had to share the spoils. Akon comes up short in this category, while the sole female artiste- Fergie, failed to garner a single vote, finishing last. Best Male Vocal Performance 1. What Goes Around, Comes Around by Justin Timberlake 2. Love Today by Mika 3. 1973 by James Blunt, Beautiful Girls by Sean Kingston, Wait for You by Elliot Yamin Justin Timberlake never disappoint as the hot favourite clinch the award by beating second place Mika, as his “high” song just cannot make it to number one. The other three songs have a fair share of votes, and are all tied on level terms. Best Female Vocal Performance 1. Rehab by Amy Winehouse, Big Girls Don’t Cry by Fergie 2. N/A 3. Soulmate by Natasha Bedingfield Fergie failed to make a splash in the category she was expected to dominate, as dark horse Amy Winehouse made a remarkable effort to become joint-number one with the Dutchess- Fergie. Natasha Bedingfield’s “Soulmate” failed to capture the hearts of listeners as she manages a third. Christina Aguilera is sure “Hurt” as she’s only able to get fourth, while early leader Nelly Furtado ends the list. Best Collaboration of the Year 1. The Sweet Escape by Gwen Stefani feat Akon 2. Give it to Me by Timbaland feat Nelly Furtado feat Justin Timberlake 3. Beautiful Liar by Beyonce feat Shakira What fierce competition, as we see a major upset with Gwen Stefani, this time teaming up with Akon to stun favourites Timbaland and Beyonce. Timbaland number one hit single could only manage second. While the hot duo of Beyonce and Shakira is third. Good effort of Paula DeAnda and Bow Wow, as they finish ahead of Natasha Bedingfield and Sean Kingston in this tightly contested category. Local Song of the Year 1. Bouncy Bouncy Smack Smack by Don & Drew, Window by Shirlyn Tan 2. N/A 3. Hello by Electrico A minor upset in this category as the number one song by Don & Drew had to share the honours with Shirlyn Tan’s “Window”. While Electrico settled for a third. Sleeq is at number with “Almost But”. It’s the “Same Old Sky” for Skive as they finish the poll without a single vote. Album of the Year 1. Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance 2. Future Sex/Love Sounds by Justin Timberlake, Shock Value by Timbaland 3. N/A My Chemical Romance made a late comeback to finish top with their number one album filled with amazing hit songs. Giant Producer Timbaland “Shock Value” had to settle for joint second with Justin Timberlake despite having so many dream collaborations with so many artistes. Not much to complain for Fergie as she manages a fourth, just in front of slight favourites, who hardly challenged the number one spot, despite having the most number one singles from the album. Song of the Year 1. Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance 2. Apologize by Timbaland feat OneRepublic 3. Home by Daughtry What a major upset in the most anticipated category as My Chemical Romance endured a late comeback from Timbaland and challenges from Daughtry as they lead from the start to finish top. Timbaland and OneRepublic played a last minute catch up, but it still proves too little too late. Debutants Daughtry must be contented with third spot with their wonderful number one song- “Home”. Linkin Park, Plain White T and Avril Lavigne finished with the same number of votes, while Kayne West behind by the slightest of margin. Hot favourite Rihanna totally disappoint, as she finishes second last, guess the chorus must have irritated a lot of people. Sean Kingston is rock bottom as he completes the list. to be edited later correct as of 30 December 11.34 pm |
