4 Weeks to go before the year end countdown. This is the first of the four part series. This week we take a look at all the number one songs that appeared in 2008.

This year we have a total number of 28 songs that topped the charts. Rihanna having the most number of them with 3 hits- Don't Stop The Music, Take A Bow and most recently Disturbia. Jonas Brothers are second, with 2 number one hits- When You Look Me In The Eyes and Burnin' Up

None of the songs in 2008 could equal, less say break the record held by Welcome To The Black Parade by MCR of spending the longest time on the charts (15). Only 3 of the number one songs this year have spent 14 weeks on the charts. They are With You, No One and Low. The dubious honour of being the worst performing number one song belongs to Avril Lavigne with The Best Damn Thing, spending only a meer 8 weeks.

Similarly, none of the songs this year could beat the record of spending the longest time at number one spot. The record again was held by MCR's Welcome To The Black Parade, speninding a whopping 5 weeks at the top (not consecutive). The closest to equalling the record was With You (not consecutive), Apologize and 7 Things

17 out of the 28 number one songs, belongs to solo artiste. Secondhand Serenade is the only one-man band that has topped the charts this year. Only 3 out of the 28 number one tracks features another artiste, namely 4 Minutes, Low and Apologize. 16 out of the 28 belongs to male artiste/band. The Ting Tings are the only exception, as they consist both a male and a female. So how do you get a number one song? Be a male, go solo and don't feature anyone on it.

The Top 100 number one song, would definitely come from one of the 28 that was mentioned above. But who? Last year everyone expected Umbrella to top, but My Chemical Romance pip her to that.

This year, with so much more influential songs, the race to number one would definitely become tighter. Apologize, no doubt, is still the most notable song around. With You was on everyone's download list for a period of time. When Step Up 2 first came up, everyone was dancing to Low. The American Idol Alumnis also have a good run on the charts with Always Be My Baby, a terrific rendition of a Mariah Carey's classic. And of course, everyone was dying for her Touch My Body . Secondhand serenade also caught the attention of many with Fall For You. Some company even used Build to Last on their advertisement. How about the infectious Brity Brit Bleeding Love and Thats Not My Name!? And there's even a couple of disney representative- 7 Things, Burnin' Up.... Don't forget the big-name songs like 4 Minutes and Stronger. Don't rule out the countdown debutants too e.g. The Last Goodnight's Pictures of You and a whole lot of other songs.

Next week we shall take a look at songs that just missed the number one spot by that lil bit. They could also have a good shot of getting into the top10 at the end of year countdown as well.
